The fleeing robbery suspect who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon last Friday has been confirmed dead.

Police sources told P.M.News this morning that the body of the desperate suspect who was arrested alongside other four members of his gang was found floating near the Lekki beach on Sunday morning.

The robbery suspect, simply called Mukaila, who was one of a five-man gang arrested by policemen from Zone 2, Onikan on Friday morning had scaled the fence of the command and jumped into the lagoon. Police sources informed P.M.News that immediately he was being thrown into the cell at the extreme end of the Zone 2 Command, Mukaila scaled the fence and jumped into the Lagoon behind the command.

Policemen were immediately alerted and they rushed to the scene and fired several shots into the Lagoon, while a mammoth crowd had gathered to watch the daylight drama. For several hours the police and the people wanted to see if the suspect would resurface, but he never did.

While some believed that the robbery suspect swam to safety, some felt there was a hidden tunnel by the side of the lagoon where he would have been cooling off. Nobody thought he had died until the police were alerted about his floating corpse at Lekki beach on Sunday. We gathered that the body of the suspect has since been buried while his colleagues are still being interrogated at Zone 2, Onikan.
